Susan Sarandon Talks New ‘Thelma & Louise’ Musical

Susan Sarandon is preparing for the stage musical adaptation of “Thelma & Louise.”
Amanda Seyfried and Evan Rachel Wood are currently working on the show in New York City, according to Variety.
“I think that’s fantastic. “They’re both great,” Sarandon, who co-starred in the iconic 1991 film with Geena Davis, told Variety at a special screening of her new film “Maybe I Do” on Tuesday. “And I hope they have as much fun, enjoy each other’s company, and love each other as Geena and I did.”
Sarandon and Seyfried co-starred in “The Big Wedding,” directed by Diane Keaton, in 2013. In “Maybe I Do,” Sarandon and Keaton reunite.
Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey play a couple who are thinking about getting married in the film. However, when they invite their parents (Sarandon, William H. Macy, Keaton, and Richard Gere) to finally meet before an official proposal, it is revealed that the future in-laws already know each other through secret relationships.
Sarandon was joined by fellow cast members Roberts and Gere, as well as writer-director Michael Jacobs and producer Vincent Newman, at the Cinema Society soiree in New York City.
“I feel like the tone of this film is different from the romantic comedies I’ve done because it’s laugh out loud funny,” Roberts said on the red carpet. “And it just felt a little more nuanced than some of my larger romantic comedies.”
Jacobs, the writer-director, adapted his play of the same name for the big screen. Keaton, who is also a producer, pushed for the casting choices. “She has excellent taste,” Jacobs observed.
Jacobs also told Variety that Hollywood’s love affair with drama-filled romance scripts never gets old: “I think we root for love. And I believe that since the first person put pen to paper or flint to rock, we have rooted for love, and it has controlled everything.”
Kathleen Turner, Christian Siriano, Candace Bushnell, Nicole Miller, Natasha Bedingfield, William Abadie, and Paulina Porizkova attended the screening.
